JOINING THE ESSEX CRAFT SOCIETY

FULL MEMBERSHIP

We recommend that you contact a member of the Society, if possible someone who works in your craft, to show him/her your work and discuss what the Society expects of members. He/she will advise you how to select and present your work.

You then:

Submit this application form, and you will be informed of the date and location of the next selection meeting.

Please bring to the selection meeting:

a) a sufficient number of works to give a good idea of your interests, commitment and ability, together with your CV, mission statement, sketches, photographs etc. Please include some recent items and indicate when works were made.

b) a cheque for £30 payable to The Essex Craft Society. This will be banked only if you are accepted as a full member.

You will be asked to display your work and leave it for an hour or so while members vote. You will be informed of the outcome when you return.

If you are selected as a full member, you will be entitled to a listing in the Society’s directory and website , and to exhibit and sell your work through the Society. You will be expected to play an active role and to contribute to at least one exhibition per year.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

If we feel you are not ready for full membership, we may invite you to join us as an associate member at the reduced fee of £15. You will be listed in the Society’s directory, will receive our newsletter and may attend private views and social functions, but you may not exhibit or sell through the Society. (Of course this will not prevent you exhibiting independently or with other organisations.)

You will be encouraged to seek advice from members who work in your craft and to reapply for full membership if you wish. Reapplications must be made within three years.

For an annual fee of £5 you will receive our newsletter (to which you will be welcome to contribute) with invitations to events of The Essex Craft Society.

You will be able share in the enjoyment of our exhibitions, including previews where you will have the opportunity to buy works before the public sees them.
