Paula Armstrong I take a fine art and design approach to textiles using a wide variety of materials and methods. Training for the Certificate in Education included weaving as a main subject. Whilst teaching I joined the National Embroiderers' Guild and learned ecclesiastical embroidery and gold work. I have made church vestments and banners to commission. I design and print fabric and make it up into soft furnishings. I am also working experimentally using textiles, paper and surface decoration to create sculptured or very tactile embroideries. The techniques used to achieve this reflect my interest in ethnographical textiles, such as resist dyeing, mirror work, fabric manipulation, embroidery and felting. I am always searching for new materials, and exploring ways of using them. |
