Patience Beaumont I studied at the Suffolk College of Art and the London College of Furniture where I specialised in printed and dyed fabrics. I started making textiles in 1994. I do screen printing, batik and all kinds of resist work, blockprinting, devore and some embroidery and beadwork. I make scarves, ties, wall hangings, bags and pictures. I have used saffron extensively and have researched into its early use as a dyestuff. In the summer of 2001 my saffron work was displayed in an exhibition held at the Saffron Walden Museum, Essex. In July 2002 I took part in some dyeing demonstrations at Reading University (where many dye plants are grown for research and commercial use) in conjunction with a conference held at the Courtauld Institute, London. The event was organised by the Medieval Dress and Textile Society. My inspiration comes from plants and historical and archaeological sites. Dyeing classes given. |
