I am interested in the relationship of gold with silver, using applied textures to emphasise the contrast between the two. The cufflinks, for example, are sand-blasted silver which has been rhodium-plated to set off the high polish of the 18-carat gold ring. Architecture inspires my work which often includes combinations of simple 2D and 3D shapes and a mix of different textures. I now specialise in jewellery made from precious metals and precious and semi-precious stones. I originally studied at the Manchester Metropolitan University where I completed a multi-media degree. This covered a wide range of materials including wood, metal, ceramics and textiles. After several years teaching in a range of secondary schools, I decided to continue my studies part-time at Sir John Cass School of Art. This gave the opportunity to widen my skill-base, applying traditional techniques working with precious metals. I am currently a resident artist at Hylands Stables centre where I continue to develop my work and sell my jewellery. I also undertake commissions and lead workshops for the public.
